RES has submitted a planning application to The Highland Council for a 5-turbine redesign of its Cairnmore Hill Wind Farm proposal, approximately 4.5 km west of Thurso, in Caithness. For more information, please click here.
Reasons to support the proposal
- In an area identified by The Highland Council as having ‘potential for wind farm development’
- Outwith any nature conservation, landscape or cultural heritage designations
- Predicted to deliver around £1.4 million of inward investment in the form of jobs, employment and the use of local services
- Will provide around £8.75 million in business rates to The Highland Council over its operational lifetime
- Capable of generating clean, low cost renewable electricity for around 28,000 homes
- Will deliver a tailored community benefit package for local area to help secure long-term economic, social and environmental benefits
- Has good wind resource, few ecological constraints, straight-forward access off the A836 public road, and is close to Scrabster harbour for turbine deliveries
- Proposed biodiversity enhancement measures predicted to deliver 16% net gain in biodiversity
